VEHICLE SAFETY

We had answers before you had questions.

Like digital security, vehicle safety is one of BYTON’s very few major underlying principles that drive all processes and guide each of our decisions, especially when it comes to innovation. We believe that enhanced safety is what makes technology relevant and our products truly smart.

Is the interior design crash-safe?

Safety is a major value and founding principle of BYTON. We ensure that 5-start NCAP is achieved in our target markets right from the start of production. Despite BYTON’s interior design being innovative, front airbags are still located where you would expect them to be. In the event of a crash, they deploy exactly like in a conventional car. The driver’s airbag is stored and deploys from a dedicated compartment that sits below the BYTON Driver Tablet. The front passenger’s airbag is integrated into the horizontal part of the dashboard, right in front of the occupant.

BYTON uses a soft silicone coating that prevents onboard displays from shattering in the event of a serious road accident. This overall safety and security concept meets the homologation requirements on all our target markets.

Does the BYTON Shared Experience Display obstruct my view of the road?

The BYTON Shared Experience Display (SED) is perfectly placed without obstructing the occupants’ view of the vehicle’s surroundings. The driver can fully see the road, as the top end of the SED is in the continuity of the hood line.

The SED sits at an ideal distance and angle from the driver’s eyes. It is also perfectly integrated into the dashboard with the optimal inclination. Therefore, it becomes part of the driver’s environment, enhancing visibility of the road and enriching the driving experience. This interior design is meeting all homologation requirements in BYTON’s target markets worldwide.

Conventional user interfaces feature multiple displays in multiple locations, along with many control buttons. BYTON opts for a simple, single-display dashboard design. Since the SED is not a touchscreen, it can be placed further away to seamlessly blend with the vehicle’s environment and the driver’s surroundings.

The SED shows all relevant driving information where the instrument cluster is traditionally located. It also offers a camera-based surround view leveraging augmented reality, further enhancing driving safety.

The SED is the biggest display ever fitted in a production vehicle; information about driving conditions, vehicle status and road safety has never been better displayed.

The content displayed on the SED automatically adjusts depending on the circumstances. For instance, entertainment can be streamed when the vehicle is stationary and is instantly switched to the 3D navigation map when the vehicle starts moving.

How does BYTON deal with the screen brightness and reflections on the displays?

The BYTON Shared Experience Display (SED) features a real-time automatic dimming function that adjusts the brightness of the display based on the driving conditions: weather, time of the day and surrounding light.

You might already know what happens to existing satellite navigation systems every time you enter a tunnel today. BYTON will take this feature even further as the switch between day and night modes will potentially be as progressive as the sunrise or sunset on that specific day.

The coating of the serial production BYTON Shared Experience Display (SED) and BYTON Driver Tablet is specifically designed to avoid excessive glaring and adjust screen brightness in a non-distracting way for the driver. Therefore, reflection on the windshield and surrounding windows will be significantly reduced.

The level and nature of tint used for the sun roof, windshield and windows will ensure the safest and most optimal experience with BYTON’s revolutionary user interface.

Is the revolutionary interface distracting for the driver?

BYTON’s onboard experiences rely on a highly flexible software-based user interface allowing operating system updates. The target is to make it as intuitive and user-friendly as possible.

BYTON Concept features an early demo version of what will be implemented on the serial production vehicle. We are continuously improving our concept based on customer feedback and market research as we are moving towards production.

DIGITAL SECURITY

We offer you greater protection through transparency.

As your next-generation smart device, your BYTON does not only need to be the safest mobile platform, but it also has to provide you with the most secure mobile ecosystem. By offering you full transparency on the vehicle’s data history as well as on your private data use, BYTON is committed to bringing you into a world of secure connectivity.

Can my self-driving BYTON be hacked?

As autonomous driving technology is powered by computers which are vulnerable to hacking, we have built an in-house team dedicated to research on advanced security threats targeting our products. The BYTON Security Lab is made up of some of the world’s best security researchers allowing us to quickly integrate appropriate defenses into all of our products.

What happens to the private data I share with BYTON?

BYTON will make sure that you always know how your data is being handled. Our goal is to offer you full transparency and move private data into your region of residence. For example, if you live in the United States, your data will reside in the United States. Similarly, if you live in China, your data will be kept in China.

What does BYTON do better than the other technology companies?

BYTON focuses on connectivity and security to ensure your data privacy. Data security and privacy is at the foundation of our technology. Unlike other technology companies, the BYTON Security Lab designs connectivity and cloud solutions, before they are built by our engineering teams. This innovative strategy ensures security by design. Other technology companies usually follow the opposite approach; engineers architect the solution and hand it off for security review, where it is often too late to make architectural changes.
